“Component M”
Sculpture by artist Jie Shao
A note from the artist: “Inspired by a phenomenon lies in industrial production system, where a shirtless male labor is quite common but also overlooked at the same time, it is not only appeared in production system but also could refer to a miner in south Asia, a factory worker in East Asia, even a freight driver in North Africa. The work uses mold to eliminate skin color and ethnicity to represent its universal appearance in various regions and industries. Like the mass production of all the industrial products, the situation of alienated labor is continually being extended under the global industrial transfer strategy.”
