A note from the artist: “During my graduate studies at Parsons, I was influenced by Georges Perec’s concept of ’simultaneous existences’ and photographed residents of New York City in their home spaces. This project evolved into my thesis titled, “Home is a Place We Build,” where I exhibited the images as a grid that emulated a residential building in New York City. Living in New York City during the pandemic has driven me to find ways to connect with people again and I felt inclined to revisit my subjects from “Home is a Place We Build.” I reached out to all of them and received 9 enthusiastic responses. Some of my subjects have moved, others have passed away, some families grew, and some have grown apart. I spent weeks biking to different locations to visit and photograph my subjects again outside of their home spaces. After I collected all of my images, I asked them to write their thoughts on the pandemic and this is what they shared…”
